I've called Tucson home since 1990 and have spent the last year and half working & semi-living in California. I was involved with a lot of amazing, healthy communities in California and desire to co-create community here in Tucson. I've been living a raw vegan lifestyle for the past 3 years and found that people that are attracted to that type of lifestlyle tend to be very high vibe, creative people that are doing great things out in the world. Along with my partner Sean, we've started a "mostly" monthly raw/vegan/organic/unprocessed food potluck that we offer at our home which is midtown. The first two gatherings have brought a diverse, amazing group of 40+ people together. We connect through the food, ritual, our Tucson based businesses & outreach and passions. We are co-creating so we are super open for suggestions as this community grows organically through word of mouth. There are NO dietary requirements other than the willingness to prepare and share a raw-vegan dish for 6-8 people the evening of the potluck. If you are new to this, I'm happy to send you links to raw websites, recipe e-books or loan you a raw food preparation book. We always share recipes as well.

Next one is at the end of the month, Feb 28th 6pm - we are starting to add musical guests and I also hope to have a small "retail therapy" area for participants to offer art or any goods that people who participate can sell to our group. It's great for casual networking also. For me, it's about bringing together the community and eating the freshest, healthiest food available on the planet and sharing what we're all doing here in Tucson. (If you are interested in joining the mailing list, please email us at mmos.themouth@gmail.com, and we'll forward it on to Rebecca). Love, Magick and blessings! Rebecca

I would like to see something done with and in the washes, especially the Santa Cruz River and Rillito River. I see a big plan, something like a river walk (without the water most of the time).

I think these washes are great areas for local art (metal type sculptures, performances) and in some areas would be the perfect place to put alongside the wash/river a small area of cafes, bars and restaurants with outdoor eating/drinking areas. The city wants to put money into areas of downtown but it is not central and would just create more traffic if ever a successful booming downtown. Many people live up north and a stretch of the Rillito near Oracle would be a good place or along the West side of the Santa Cruz river too since many people do live west of the highway.

I have heard that this has been thought of before but never done due to the trash in the wash that would wash up on the sculptures when it rained...that is ridiculous and just another way to involve the community!!! - clean the wash days!!! An all volunteer project which could start small with quarterly cleanings along the areas - a great way to make new friends while cleaning the environment...maybe afterwards groups would go eat or drink together...maybe if the economy ever gets rolling again the project could get a non profit status to help pay for supplies or a once a year party.
