The All Souls Procession

MMOS's flagship event began as an individual performance piece by Tucson artist, Susan Johnson in 1990. Today All Souls has now become one of the most authentic public ceremonies in North America today. Over 10,000 people from all walks of life come together every fall in Downtown Tucson to commemorate, honor, mourn, and celebrate the passing of our ancestors and loved ones.

In the months leading up to the Procession, free, family-friendly workshops are offered to the public. In addition, MMOS gives people the opportunity to experience the event through projects like the Urn and Video Ancestry Project.

International Procession Network

We envision a network of groups that organize public processions and events, sharing resources and talents at venues around the world. MMOS's current outreach online and off is just the start of this network. We want to spread the quality of arts throughout all our communities, but we need your help!

Interested in joining the network? Send us an email telling us about your organization- any info regarding its mission, list of programs/projects, events- and ideas you might have (exchange programs, artist-in-residence, co-sponsored events) in helping us further perpetuate festal culture throughout the world.

Trust/Foundation

MMOS plans to establish its own funding entity to help grow the arts in Tucson and abroad. We believe that until adequate support for the arts is established, this vital part of our culture will be more defined by struggle, than creativity and inspiration. We aim to fix that- with your support!

Want to become an annual sponsor to MMOS? You can donate via Paypal, but if you'd like to communicate with us more directly, or have other funding ideas, please e-mail our MMOS Administrator.

SPONSORED EVENTS

MMOS disseminates festal culture by creating events that feed the core human need for celebration and creative public expression. Our site-specific performances involve local and world renowned artists utilizing theater, pyrotechnics, music, video, performance, and acrobatics to create events like no other.

THE WHIZZBANG

In the Fall of 2006, Flam Chen & Carpetbag Brigade spent a two-week residency in Nanaimo, British Columbia to teach an advanced skills workshop in their respective crafts (acro-stilts and fire). The result was a community-driven performance paying homage to the mining culture that birthed the city of Nanaimo, while honoring the dead miners whose bodies were still buried beneath the town.

This project was made possible by the Crimson Coast Dance Society.

KABOOM is a live multimedia pyrotechnic spectacle created by Flam Chen & Adam Cooper-Terán, in collaboration with Elemental Artistry, Bark Bark Bark, and Race Greathouse Labs. The event was co-sponsored by Kaboom Energy Drink and involved over 20 performers, a video-fire-sculpture installation, and one DJ.

THE RADIANCE

The Radiance is a performance made in collaboration with Dambe Project, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization specializing in African performing arts education.

The show's narrative is a tribal calling to the Kokapi (also spelled Kokopee), a stilt-creature created by Flam Chen Pyrotechnic Theater Company. The Kokapi has made numerous appearances at arts festivals and civic events, creating a mythology around the creature that has spread throughout the Southwest.
